Domaine

Our Domaine currently covers 9.5 hectares (about 25 acres) divided into 23 plots in 3 different villages – Viré, Montbellet and Burgy – and 4 appellations d’origine:

  • Viré-Clessé: 5.6 hectares
  • Mâcon-Villages and Mâcon: 2.22 hectares
  • Bourgogne rouge: 0.66 hectare
  • Mâcon-Burgy: 0.8 hectare

My grandfather, Victor Chaland, began cultivating grapes in the 1930s. My father, Jean-Noël, took over from him in 1967 and created the Domaine’s first blended wine. I founded the Domaine Sainte Barbe, with a surface area of 4 hectares, in 2000.

Our vineyards have always been managed and tilled without synthetic herbicides.  This respect for the soil and the expression of our terroirs – the unique environmental context in which a particular wine is produced – enabled us to obtain Organic certification in 2003.

Our grapes are 100% hand-picked.

We’re proud of our know-how and our terroirs, which have been fashioned by time and by our work.

Winemakers

After earning his high school diploma and a BTS degree in Viticulture-Oenology, Jean-Marie expanded his knowledge in the vineyards of Champagne, Châteauneuf du Pape, and Australia before returning to his Domaine.

Ewelina joined the Domaine in early 2000. Her roots are in Poland, and she has brought new skills to vineyard management.

Jean-Marie and Ewelina have been sharing their passion for cultivating grapes and making wine since the 2000 vintage.
